Viimsi Artium presents: Beethoven’s piano trios

On stage:

Piano trio Poll-Varema-Poll

Soo-Young Lee (clarinet)

Ludwig van Beethoven

Trio G-duration on. 1 no. 3

Trio B-duration op. 11 “Gassenhauer”

Trio E-flat major, Op.70 No.2

The concert series is dedicated to the piano trios of Ludwig van Beethoven. During the three concerts, Mari Poll (violin), Henry-David Varema (cello) and Mihkel Poll (piano) will bring to the audience all the works written by the composer in this genre. As with many other instrumental forms, Beethoven’s contribution to the development of the genre is invaluable. Furthermore, the piano trios from Op 1 to the Archduke Trio, the last of his piano trios, which remains one of his best-known chamber works, clearly show how the composer`s individual musical style evolved over time.

At the first concert of the series, the Trio in B major op. cit. 11 “Gassenhauer” is performed- this time in a clarinet version with Korean-born clarinetist Soo-Young Lee.

Mari Poll, Henry-David Varema and Mihkel Poll are internationally acclaimed performers who have been active as a trio since 2013.

The ensemble`s repertoire includes a wide range of music from Mozart, Beethoven, and Brahms to works by contemporary composers, while works buy Estonian composers such as Artur Lemba, Heino Eller, Erkki-Sven Tüür, Arvo Pärt and Riho Esko Maimets, play a special place in the trio’s repertoire. However, in the 2022/2023 season, the trio’s focus will be Beethoven to perform the composer’s eight piano trios as a full cycle.
