ARTIUM’s First Anniversary with ERSO

For the second year since the opening of the new cultural centre, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ERSO) fills Viimsi ARTIUM with music once again. From noon to the evening hours, the audience can listen to different concerts performed both by the chamber formations as well as full orchestra in different halls of the venue. 

The program includes both famous pieces of classical music as well as rare gems and music composed for children. Arnold Schönberg’s A Glorified Night, Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Goldberg Variations, The Piano Quintet by the Estonian composer Jaan Rääts and a host of other surprise pieces will be performed over the course of the day. The day of celebration ends with ARTIUM`s birthday party on the roof terrace of the venue. 

The symphony concert, which starts at 7p.m.in the Grand Hall will be conducted by Kaspar Mänd, who has been working as a conductor at the Estonian National Opera since 2014. From 2019 to 2023, Mänd was the chief conductor of the Pärnu City Orchestra, being among other things, dedicated to commissioning and performing new contemporary music. ERSO will perform Ralph Vaughan Williams’ overture The Wasps, Benjamin Britten´s – Les Illuminations. Op.18 for soprano Annabel Soode and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart`s – Symphony No.35

At 8:30 p.m. the evening proceeds with an Electro Swing-style birthday party. The DJ of the evening is Tõnu Kõrvitswho is an internationally renowned Estonian composer and multi-instrumentalist. His selection includes the best pieces from the classics of rock and pop of the seventies and eighties: New Wave, synthpop, soul, rock, as well as Estonian music. 

Throughout the day, the Annual Sculpture Exhibition of the Estonian Sculptors’ Association is open to visitors in the two art galleries of ARTIUM and you can participate in different workshops.
