The legendary American jazz pianist and singer Nat King Cole is known to very many music -loving people in the world. Many songs such as “Mona Lisa”, “Smile”, “Unforgettable” have immortalized him for the audiences. His daughter – singer, actress and songwriter Natalie Cole – is also a very well-known and beloved artist who has received several Grammy awards during her lifetime. Natalie’s first preference was initially r’n’b and funk music, but she didn’t miss jazz. In 1991, she recorded the song “Unforgettable” as a duet, using his father’s earlier recording. The singer’s album of the same name won 7 Grammy Awards. Both father and daughter have left a strong mark on the history of jazz music.
Marvi Vallaste has been known to the public for almost two decades. His velvety, soft, emotional, and deep voice has won the hearts of audiences who have heard her perform in many musical projects. Marvi’s journey with music began as a child at the Kuressaare Music School and continued with her studies in pop-jazz singing at Georg Ots Tallinn Music School under the supervision of Kare Kauks and Mare Väljataga. To date, Marvi has collaborated with many of Estonia’s top musicians and has performed in various ensembles both as a soloist and a background singer. At Christmas Jazz 2022, Marvi, along with a quintet of great musicians, came up with a new program dedicated to the work of Natalie Cole and Nat King Cole.
The programme, consisting of the best of Nat and Natalie Cole’s r’n’b and jazz songs, received a very warm welcome both at the Christmas Jazz concerts, which sold out at an amazing speed, and at the Sõru Jazz and Kõltsu Manor concerts in the summer of 2023.
The programme of the concert at Viimsi Artium will include several well-known Christmas songs from the works of Nat and Natalie Cole. You will have a chance to hear several well- known songs “Miss You Like Crazy”, “Nature Boy”, “I’ve Got Love On My Mind”, “Unforgettable”, “Smile”, “Christmas Song” among other works by the two musicians.
